Inside the Yemeni Chevening Scholars Roundtable in London

On 30 March 2026, Yemeni Chevening Scholars came together in London for a special roundtable hosted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The gathering brought together outstanding Yemeni scholars from diverse fields, creating a space for meaningful dialogue, shared experiences, and forward-looking discussions. During the session, participants reflected on their academic journeys in the UK and exchanged insights on key challenges facing Yemen, particularly in public health, education, and sustainable development. The conversations also highlighted the vital role of youth in driving positive change and shaping a more stable future.

Scholars had the opportunity to engage directly with professionals working on Yemen-related portfolios, including those in the humanitarian and development sectors, as well as specialists connected to the Chevening Awards. These interactions offered valuable perspectives on linking academic knowledge with real-world impact.

A notable contribution came from Alhussen Al Najjar, who reflected on his journey as a Chevening scholar and emphasised the responsibility of representing Yemen’s future. Drawing from his experience in sustainable development, he highlighted the importance of connecting education with long-term impact, particularly in empowering youth and supporting pathways from crisis to recovery. His perspective added depth to the discussion, reinforcing the role of scholars as both learners and future leaders.

More than just a meeting, the roundtable reaffirmed that Chevening is not only an academic opportunity, but a platform for leadership, responsibility, and long-term contribution.

At the Yemen Chevening Hub, we are proud to see Yemeni scholars representing their country with purpose and actively contributing to conversations that matter.
